From 8200 feet along one side of the Upper Arkansas River Valley in central Colorado, my blog is about many things: travel including river and bicycle trips, and other experiences as well. The focus is on photography, not lots of text.

Here's the approximate western end of Highway 50, in Sacramento, California. Very near this offramp, the highway merges onto Interstate 80 at an intersection with Interstate 5. Highway 50 used to go on, but now the way to the Pacific Ocean is via I-80 across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco.Labels: Highway 50, Sacramento

Pictured above is the summit of Old Monarch Pass. This was the route of Highway 50 until 1921. The highway now crosses the continental divide maybe a mile south of here. The old road is now a cross country ski route, also traveled by snowmobiles. In the summer, you can drive over, and go down the Gunnison side of the mountains.Labels: Colorado, cross country skiing, Highway 50, Old Monarch Pass
The view west toward Monarch Pass on Highway 50, Chaffee County, Colorado. When it works out, I've enjoyed driving up there on Friday afternoons since my friend is up at the ski area then with a group of her students.Labels: Chaffee County, Collegiate Peaks, Colorado, Highway 50, Monarch
