High Mountain Doings

From 8200 feet along one side of the Upper Arkansas River Valley in central Colorado, my blog is about many things: travel including river and bicycle trips, and other experiences as well. The focus is on photography, not lots of text.

Butterfly Pavilion

The Butterfly Pavilion in Denver, Colorado.

An organization I belong to (CIPA, Colorado Independent Publishers Association) held a monthly meeting at the Butterfly Pavilion in October, 2007. After the meeting, we all could walk around and see what there was to see. Here are three photos taken inside the pavilion, which is a large space roofed with transparent material to allow the sun to shine in. Inside, water runs through rocky channels, there are large, lush jungle-like plants, paved paths through the area, and outlets that spray water as a mist. So the pavilion is rather warm and humid, simulating the tropics. In the middle photograph, an employee presents a program about the various butterflies in the pavilion, showing each one and
then releasing it.

Next month, CIPA will return to its regular meeting place. This will
be unfortunate.

About to unload another trailer full of firewood. It snowed the morning of Oct 15, so winter must be here though the snow was gone by afternoon! This wood came from my friend Anrahyah's lot--mostly from where her house now stands. Though sorry to cut trees, she is very glad that the wood will come to a good use.

Me, working on the wing rib jig in my shop.

This is the partially completed jig for building wing ribs. I've told some of you about this, but it's hard to visualize without a photo. So here's a photo. The wings are part of a Kolb Firestar kit that I'm just getting back to after years of inactivity. Or I should say, after too much activity?

Arkansas Valley Sunset

Several years ago, while driving home from Denver, this fine view across the Arkansas Valley toward Mt. Yale presented itself. The photo was taken from a place I know near Highway 24-285, in central Colorado.
